And the cross country season extends itself one more week! David and Matt (DRen & MRen) competed at the Meet of Champions on a beautiful day, on a super fast course, and proved they know how to prepare for big meets. DRen followed the pre-race strategy to a “T”, staying buried in the lead pack for most of the race before giving it a go for second with 800m to go, eventually finishing 4th overall, while MRen got a great start, fell back slightly, then made up a lot of ground over the final mile to place 41st. Matt’s time of 16:35 is a PR of 43 seconds, and that PR only came last week. DRen’s time of 15:41 is also a PR of 43 seconds (what are the chances?!), and a whopping 1:03 faster than his 4th place effort at the DII meet last week. In fact, DRen now has both the highest boys finish at MOC’s in MV’s history and the fastest 5k ever run by ahigh school MV athlete. Unmentioned coming into the race, it was certainly satisfying seeing him place in the top 4, and finish as the top DII runner. Now it’s off to Belfast Maine for the New England Championship!
