This Friday sees us at one of our favorite meets, the Belmont “Jeri Blair” Invitational, AKA “The T-Shirt Meet”. It is unique in that there are a smattering of DII schools, but mostly DIII schools, and that the boys race first. No JV race, everyone races together! The top 20 finishers receive t-shirts.
For the boys, defending DIII champions Kearsarge are the favorite to win the title, while Mascenic’s DJ Turner is the top returning boy. He is not the favorite to win, however, as his teammate Jake Movessian ran a 16:43 at Black Bear on Saturday. Behind him is Hanover’s Morgan Baughman (17:22 at Black Bear). Don’t count out our very own David R., as he could easily take second. As a team, in 2014 the boys placed 11th and scored 1 t-shirt, in 2015 they placed 6th and scored 2 t-shirts, this year we are running for a top-5 and 2 or more t-shirts. For Dylan to run his way to a top-20 and t-shirt he would have to crank out a big PR...he has been running well in practice!
In the girls side, MV has both the defending team champion and defending individual champion. However, with Kristie on a college visit, both honors will likely go to a school new to Belmont, 6th-ranked Hanover. Individually they have outstanding freshman Lucy Gluek, as well as their top finisher on Saturday, Leila Trummel. MV still has a legitimate shot at a top-3 finish, so long as our top 5 keep it close. 4 t-shirts should do it! In 2014 we won 1, last year we won 2, this year the goal is 4!
Meet starts at 3:30, bus at 1:15 at MV, see you then!
